At the age of 3 Patty Hyslop grew up on her aunts ranch in Potrero, CA. The first horse she rode was a Shetland pony named ‘Lollipop’ and immediately fell in love. Her aunt recused horses and that’s where she found the passion for it. She moved to Jamul, CA in 2000. It all started with one horse, and after one month she had over 30 rescues. Since then she has recused over 100 horses, some went to good homes after she trained them and some passed of old age. Patty raced for over 20 years in cross country racing and has trained many riders that have raced in Del Mar and beyond.
A few years ago she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and has undergone multiple surgeries, but still gets out there everyday, caring for the horses and training riders from 3+ years of age and shows the passion she has for horses and life. Her favorite quote is “the best attitude you can have in the saddle is a good sense of humor and a lot of patience”. In training she lives by the 3 second rule…you have 3 seconds to correct, praise and ignore a behavior you didn’t correct. When you’re here you can immediately see her love for horses and passion to train them by the horses amazing demeanor and sweet personalities.

Icelandic Gelding that was rescued from El Centro, CA in 2004 and is approximately 28 years old. At first, he was not gentle or used to people, but over a few months Patty tamed him, and he became and amazing fit for the ranch. He is currented owned and leased.

Icelandic Mare that in 2000 and is approximately 34 years old. Orca was gentled when rescued but sassy. She had not been interacted with regularly, so when she started getting attention her amazing personality came out. Patty owns her but is looking for a buyer that would board her at Hyslop Horse Haven. She is currently leased by one rider, but could also have another lease.

Wild Small Mustang that Patty bought in 2022 through and online Bureau of Land Management (BLM) auction. Two Snap had two strikes, which means she wouldn’t live if she didn’t get adopted at that time. Patty and her niece drove 10 hours to pick her up. Two Snap is so small because she grew up in Salty River, NV which didn’t have enough forage for her to grow full size. For the first three months she wouldn’t let anyone touch her. She is now doing English and Western shows, and at her second English show won 2nd place! Patty owns her but is looking for a buyer that would board her at Hyslop Horse Haven. She is currently leased by one rider, but could also have another lease.

Icelandic Mare that was rescued 2006 from Northern California and is about 20 years old. Pippa wouldn’t do anything at first and was violent with any rider. With Patty’s training she is now an amazing trail horse, does dressage and will start show jumping in 2024. She welcomes everyone with sweetest looks and has the best sense of humor. She is owner and loves her mom very much!
